Not so long ago I saw a British drama film called "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" («Мальчик, который обуздал ветер»). It was written and directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor who also played one of the main roles in the film.
The film tells about a teenage boy, William. He comes from a family of farmers who live in Malawi, a country in southeastern Africa. William is a clever schoolboy who loves studying at school and is keen on fixing radios. His family, just like the whole village, suffers from drought and the resulting famine. His parents can't pay for William's school but he keeps coming to the school library. The boy's mind and acquired knowledge enable him to devise a plan how to save his village.
The actors play very well in the film. William's part is played by Maxwell Simba and Chiwetel Ejiofor plays his father. Their characters are impossible not to root for.
I also liked the soundtrack in the film. It echoes the characters' mood and reflects African culture.
But the thing I like most of all is the message of the story: the power of education, access to knowledge and a person's determination can change his or her life and life of the whole village and country.
To sum it up, I believe it is a must-see film.
