Братско-усть-ильинский территориально-производственный комплекс (ТПК) начал формироваться в 1950-х гг. Сейчас он занимает второе место в Иркутской области по численности населения и объему производства промышленной продукции. ТПК охватывает обширную территорию Среднего Приангарья. Его развитие основано на использовании уникальных гидроресурсов Ангары, богатейших лесных запасов, высококачественной руды Ангаро-Илимского железорудного района. Расположен он вдоль среднего течения Ангары, на берегах Братского и Усть-Илимского водохранилищ, и включает Братский, Нижнеилимский, Усть-Илимский административные районы, города Братск, Усть-Илимск, Железногорск- Илимский и Вихоревку.
