Земля, как известно, чуть приплюснута с поясов. Следовательно, расстояние от центра Земли до полюсов меньше, чем расстояние от центра до экватора Чем меньше это расстояние, тем больше ускорение свободного падения. Значит на полюсе маятник будет качаться быстрее, период колебаний уменьшится.
На экваторе наоборот маятник качается медленнее, период увеличится.
И, наконец, на высоте над землей расстояние еще увеличится, ускорение свободного падения уменьшится, период увеличится.
