In my opinion, there are several reasons why people read in the evenings.
First reason is that in the evening they have free time for reading after work or studies. 
Second reason is that it's better to memorize new information at the end of the day. 
Third reason is that people sometimes read together and evening is the time when all family members are together. 
To sum up, evening time is the best time for such an interesting activity!
