Я мечтаю стать сварщиком. Это очень интересная и нужная людям работа.

Если пройти по улицам города, то можно увидеть на стройке, как то тут, то там вспыхивает и гаснет голубая звёздочка-огонёк. Встретив её во дворе, мы сразу же отворачиваемся: слишком яркая, смотреть больно.

Мой дядя Коля — сварщик. Мне нравится наблюдать за его работой. Дядя Коля надевает брезентовый костюм, рукавицы, лицо закрывает маской с чёрными стёклами. Повернёт он кран, чиркнет спичкой — и забьёт из горелки струя голубого пламени. Ещё я заметил два резиновых шланга, которые тянутся к баллонам, а в них сжатый газ. В одном — ацетилен, в другом — кислород. При работе смешиваются струи газа и пламя становится таким, что легко плавится любой металл. Если нужно дяде Коле крепко соединить стальные листы, он их поплотнее сдвинет, прижмёт друг к другу и зажжёт горелку. Ослепительное пламя плавит сталь, и два листа становятся одним целым. Со свистом вырывается из горелки кислород, блеском светится металл, и сыплются искры. Минута, другая — и железная труба разрезана на половинки. Ещё дядя умеет работать электрической сваркой. Он объяснил мне, что это настоящая молния, только послушная.

Где только не приходится работать сварщикам! Они помогают сваривать мосты, корабли, электростанции, автомобили. Повсюду стальные трубы газопроводов соединяют друг с другом мастера-сварщики. И газ рекой течёт по трубопроводам в города и сёла, а мы на голубом огне готовим пищу.

Надеюсь, моя мечта сбудется, и в нашей семье появится династия сварщиков.

NEIGHBOURS

“Good walls make good neighbours” is an extremely negative way of viewing the people who live next door. We all have neighbours, and it makes life so much easier if you can manage (1) _____ (get on) well with them. In Britain, over 30,000 people a year complain about noisy neighbours – their music, parties, pets, children and cars, and many of these complaints go to court.
